Lunch by Ukrainian Canadian Social Services - Ottawa Branch
Our Ottawa branch of Ukrainian Canadian Social Services cares deeply about Ukrainians in Canada who need support. They have provided significant assistance in organizing the course, finding a venue, and communicating with participants.
As a course compliment, one representative of this organization, Oksana Kavera, arranged for Canadian Ukrainian Social Services to allocate a budget for course refreshments. During lunch, participants will be offered sandwiches, vegetables, cookies, and tea. Oksana personally prepares sandwiches for everyone.
About the Instructor and the Project:
Olha Ostafiichuk - Public Health Inspector at Renfrew County and District Health Unit.
Part of my job involves delivering free standard Food Safety Courses in English. Course materials and the authority to certify learners are provided by the Ontario Ministry of Health. These courses are part of our ongoing work in Renfrew County.
To offer the course in Ukrainian in Ottawa, I deliver the course in my free time and independently translate the program and materials into Ukrainian.
Renfrew County and District Health Unit authorized me to issue certificates to participants upon passing the exam, which is a significant service from the agency. Similar services where courses are taught in languages other than English/French are not offered by other Health Units.
Thus, the instructor's volunteer work and certification by the Renfrew County and District Health Unit make it possible to take this free Ukrainian-language course in Ottawa.
Thanks to the support of Ukrainian Canadian Social Services and Ukrainian Credit Union, this project became a reality. This is a volunteer project created by Ukrainians for Ukrainians.
Last year, we certified 120 people. We hope this year our course will help many Ukrainians improve their knowledge of food safety, enhance food safety practices by certified workers, introduce them to Canadian food industry requirements, and increase job prospects in the food sector.
We believe this course will serve as a valuable development tool in Canada.
We look forward to seeing you at the course!
Sincerely and Best Wishes,
Olha Ostafiichuk (Instructor, Public Health Inspector)
