Sunflower Camp 2026 Jubilee Season — A Summer of Ukrainian Traditions
Summer 2026 is special: Sunflower Camp celebrates its 5th anniversary. As one of the key initiatives of Ukrainian Social Services of Ottawa (UCSS), Sunflower Camp is a place where children enjoy the outdoors, build friendships, and grow with a strong connection to Ukrainian culture.
This Jubilee Season is a journey through Ukraine’s summer festive calendar. Three themed sessions are united by one idea: to discover and truly experience Ukraine through tradition, folk arts, and history — from Green Holidays and the first harvest to the magic of Ivana Kupala night.
What kids can look forward to • Ukrainian traditions and celebrations in a fun, hands-on format • folk games, quests, and team adventures • creative workshops, crafts, and protective talismans (oberihs) • songs, dances, and themed performances • swimming, waterfront activities, and kayaking • evening campfires with marshmallows, guitar songs, and heartfelt moments
Three themed sessions
1) “Roots. Earth. First Harvest” A session about connection to the land, family, and everyday Ukrainian heritage. Kids explore traditional symbols of the sun and bread, learn crafts and legends, and celebrate the first harvest in the warm spirit of a Ukrainian village.
2) “Green Holidays: A World of Tales and Talismans” A session of creativity and imagination inspired by Green Holidays, mythical characters, Ukrainian folktales, and the mysteries of nature. Kids create oberihs, take part in theatrical games, and work together through quests and challenges.
3) “Fire and Water: The Magic of Ivana Kupala” The brightest, final session — the culmination of summer. Kupala traditions come alive through fire and water rituals, the legendary search for the fern flower, songs, dances, and stories — celebrating unity, courage, renewal, and joy.
Why families choose Sunflower Camp Sunflower Camp brings together an active summer in nature, homemade Ukrainian meals, and a strong sense of community. It’s where friendships grow, confidence builds, and children feel proud of their Ukrainian roots.
The 2026 Jubilee Season is more than a program. It’s a celebration of Ukrainian identity — and a summer to remember.
