UCSS Ottawa at the Senate of Canada: Uniting Against Disinformation

On January 21, 2026, representatives from UCSS Ottawa attended a pivotal forum at the Senate of Canada titled: "Russian Disinformation in Canada: Impact and Counteraction." Hosted by Senator Stan Kutcher in collaboration with Ukrainian community organizations, the event brought together thought leaders, diplomats, and activists. For our organization, this meeting was both highly informative and deeply inspiring. Senator Kutcher emphasized that the Ukrainian-Canadian community serves as the first line of defense against information warfare. Our primary goal moving forward is to be proactive rather than reactive.

Key Insights for Our Future Work: Information Resilience: We aim to integrate media literacy into our educational and youth initiatives, including our upcoming Sunflower Summer Camp.

Unity as a Shield: Countering propaganda is only possible by strengthening community bonds and consistently promoting truthful narratives about Ukraine within the Canadian landscape.

Strategic Partnerships: Collaborating with leaders like Senator Kutcher and Ambassador Andriy Shevchenko (Ambassador of Ukraine) opens new avenues for safeguarding democratic values.

This forum reaffirmed that UCSS Ottawa's mission extends beyond social support. We are active participants in a global movement for truth and the security of our community's future in Canada.
